If you are in the market for a used car and have found one you like, what should you do next?  We recommend asking for service records.  Check to see whether the recommended schedules for preventive maintenance have been followed.  If so, there’s a better chance of the vehicle being ok.  If not, then assume the worst.

When you kick the tires, also look at tread wear, uneven wear equals alignment problems, worn shocks, and/or suspension problems. Listen to the engine for unusual sounds and pay attention to unexpected odors. When you take it for a test drive, use the brakes, hard! Did it swerve, shudder, or make noise? All of these can be concerns, most with price tags to correct.
